Final Stats
COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Maryland baseball earned a split in a doubleheader with Towson Wednesday at Shipley Field. Towson led throughout in the first game of the day and held on to win 7-5, but the Terps bounced back to win 20-5 in the nightcap. In that second game, the Maryland offense set new season-highs with 20 runs, 24 hits, eight doubles, four home runs and 12 extra-base hits, while Terrapin pitchers struck out a season-high 13 Towson hitters.
Elliot Singletary homered twice in the second game of the night and drove in a career-high five runs. For the day, Singletary was 6-for-10 with six RBI, four runs, two home runs, a double and two stolen bases. He entered the day ranked third in the nation in doubles per game (0.50/g) and moved his season total to 22, which tied him for second on Maryland's single-season record list.
Will Frazier also moved up on some Maryland lists, moving into a second place tie on the career home runs list with 32 and into sole possession of third place on the career RBI list with 136. Frazier drove in three runs in the two games, two of which came on his eighth home run of the season in the second game.
Matt Maropis had a big second game, setting a new career-high in hits by going 5-for-6, tying a career-high with three RBI and scoring a team season-high five runs. He became the first Terrapin player to score five runs in a game since Daryl Whitmer did it on May 2, 2002. Maropis is now hitting .378 (17-for-45) with 16 runs scored in his last 11 games.
Truan Mehl extended a team-high current hit streak to nine games and moved into a tie for 10th place on the Maryland's single season hits list with a couple of two-hit games. Mehl has a team-high 78 hits on the year, including 21 multi-hit games - also a team-best.
Jason Von Behren tied a career-high with three hits in the second game. Brian Jarosinski drove in a team-high two runs in the first game of the day and scored two runs in the second game. Taylor Baum hit his first career home run late in the second game, and Nick Jowers was 1-for-1 with a walk and at least one RBI for the second time in two games (in which he makes a plate appearance).
Maryland will look to carry that offensive momentum into the weekend when it welcomes No. 15 Florida State for its final conference series of the season.

After Maryland scored another run fourth to go up 12-1, Towson came back with a four-run fifth to get back within seven runs at 12-5. Shane Justis and Adam Heffron connected on back-to-back home runs, and Jason Maxey hit an RBI double to chip away at the Maryland lead.
A three-run fifth and a five-run seventh officially sealed the game, as the Terps tied their biggest victory of the season (15 runs, 17-2 vs. Coppin State). 10 different Terps scored runs in the game and 10 had at least one hit in Maryland's most productive offensive game of the season. Collectively, Maryland had 24 hits - a new season-high and one shy of the school record for hits in a game.
GAME ONE RECAP
Towson got out to an early two-run lead behind a double by Adam Heffron and a two-run home run by Casper Wells . Adam Heffron connected on the first of back-to-back-to-back extra-base hits and scored on Wells' 16th home run of the season.
Truan Mehl got the Terps on the board in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI double to left-center field. Elliot Singletary led off the inning with a walk and a stolen base, and then scored on Mehl's 18th double of the season. For Singletary, the stolen base was his ninth consecutive successful attempt and the run was his 31st of the season.
The Tigers responded with another two-run inning, with both of those runs being unearned as a result of a throwing error and a passed ball. Greg Furmanek hit an RBI double and Adam Heffron an RBI groundout to give Towson a 4-1 lead.
Maryland fought its way back into the game with a two-run fourth inning, cutting the Towson lead to 4-3. Truan Mehl reached on a one-out single, and Jordan Wilson was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second with two outs. A balk by Towson starter Matt Holley moved both runners up a base, and Brian Jarosinski scored them both with a two-run double down the left field line.
Towson would score three more runs in the sixth and seventh innings to take its largest lead of the game at 7-3. Former Terp Jason Maxey added to his school record home run total with his 19th home run of the season - a solo shot as part of a deciding two-run Towson seventh inning.
Down 7-3, Maryland mounted a serious threat in the bottom of the ninth inning, loading the bases for the top of the Maryland order. Jordan Wilson led off with a single, and Brian Jarosinski walked to put two runners on base with no outs. Towson reliever Steve Johnson got two key outs, but then hit nine-hole hitter Joe Palumbo to load the bases for Elliot Singletary. Singletary fell behind 1-2, but hit a chopper to third base and beat it out to score Wilson from third base. Will Frazier followed with a walk, scoring Jarosinski from third and bringing Truan Mehl to the plate with the bases loaded. Johnson induced a groundball out from Mehl to end the Terrapin rally and close out the game with a 7-5 Towson win.
