Terps Fourth in ACC Quad Swim Meet

Terps Travel to Take On Duke and NC State

Coming off of a 120-82 win against Johns Hopkins in their season opener at home, the Maryland men's swimming and diving team will travel to Durham, N.C. for their first meet on the road this season. The Terps will battle ACC rivals Duke and NC State on Saturday, November 4 starting at 2:00 pm.

The Duke Blue Devils won their first meet of the season at UNC Wilmington (154-147) on October 21. On October 28, the NC State Wolfpack lost their home opener against 14th ranked Tennessee (149-103). For all three teams, this weekend's meet will mark the first time this season that each team will compete against an ACC opponent.

Last season against Duke:

-The Blue Devils were victorious over the Terps 126-115.

-Sophomore Eric Cullen (Severn, Md.) notched a second-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:09.41) followed by senior Tim Shepard (Catonsville, Md.) in third (2:10.80).

-Cullen finished fourth in the 200 individual medley (2:00.49).

-Sophomore John Closs placed third in the 50 freestyle (21.84).

-Junior Ken Golaszewski (Boulder, Col.) swam to a second-place finish in the 1000 free (10:00.97).

Last season against NC State:

-The Wolfpack defeated the Terps 152-76.

-Senior Tony Miller (Severna Park, Md.) swam to a fourth-place finish in the 200 IM (1:56.85) followed by Cullen in fifth.

-Junior Eric Thomasson (Severna Park, Md.) notched third in the 100 butterfly (52.04). Thomasson also came in second in the 100 back (53.91).

-Senior Danny Gray (Carlisle, Pa.) placed second in the 50 free (46.34). Gray was also a member of the 200 free relay team claiming first (1:24.21).

-Maryland notched the first three places in the 100 breast with Shepard finishing first (58.74), Cullen in second (58.85), and Miller in third (1:00.20).

Last week against Johns Hopkins:

-The Terps defeated the Blue Jays 120-82.

-Gray won the 50 free (20.66).

-Sophomore Dong Kim (Bucks Co., Pa) took the 100 free (46.11) followed by sophomore Jake DiPiazza (Silver Spring, Md.) in a third-place finish (50.08).

-Thomasson placed second in the 200 free (1:45.81) and freshman Aleksandar Damjanic (Zagreb, Croatia) came in third place (1:46.55). Thomasson went on to win the 100 back (53.61).

-Freshman Chris Rouchard (Westlake, Ohio) won the 1000 free (9:50.35) and the 500 free (4:50.37).

-In the 100 fly, sophomore Andrew Weinert (Allentown, Pa.) led the way with a first-place finish (52.07).

-The Terps took the top-three places in the 100 breast with Cullen claiming first (59.01), Miller in second (59.04), and Shepard in third (59.13).

-Maryland also claimed the top three finishes in the 200 IM; Miller won the event (1:57.18), Shepard finished second (1:59.57) and Cullen followed in third (1:59.85).

-The 200 medley relay team of Kim, Cullen, Weinert, and Gray swam to a first-place finish (1:33.80).
