Maryland Welcomes Tech For Three-Game Series

  • The Maryland Terrapins (11-16, 4-8 ACC) will host the No. 3 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at Shipley Field in a three-game Atlantic Coast Conferene series from March 31-April 2.

  • Starting this weekend, Maryland will play 10 of its next 13 games in College Park. The home stretch will be a welcome change for the Terps, who played 20 of their first 22 games away from Shipley Field.

  • Maryland has beaten three ranked teams thus far in 2006 (No. 3 UNC, No. 14 Miami and No. 25 James Madison) and looks to make Georgia Tech the fourth. The Terps take on the Jackets this weekend at a time when GT stands both third in the nation and third in the ACC's Coastal Division. Tech went16-0 before beginning its conference schedule and has dropped four of nine games since.

  • The Terps currently trail the all-time series, 18-56. Last season, the Yellow Jackets took two out of three games from Maryland down in Atlanta. Tech won the series opener, 13- 8, and the finale, 24-4, but the Terps upset the top-ranked Yellow Jackets in the middle matchup. Ben Pfinsgraff scattered five hits in 7.2 innings, allowing just one run to one of the nation's top hitting teams. Michael Meagher sealed the victory by retiring all four batters he faced and Truan Mehl drove in both Maryland runs on a pair of hits, as the Terps left just four men on base.

  • Georgia Tech (21-4, 5-4 ACC) features a balanced and powerful lineup that has three players currently hitting .370 or better. Leadoff man Danny Payne paces the club with a .372 average, followed closely by first baseman Whit Robbins and third baseman Wes Hodges, who are hitting .371 and .370, respectively. Robbins owns a team-best six home runs while Payne has stolen 11 bags in 13 attempts.
