COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
The Maryland men's and women's swimming and diving teams will host the Black & Red Invitational starting on Friday, October 12.
The Terps are looking to an easy transition from the summer training sessions into the regular season. "The consistent athletes have trained over the summer," said interim coach Jarod Schroeder. "We are aware of those athletes who spent their summer in training for the upcoming season."
Maryland is looking to the invitational to showcase the Terps' talent. "We have been very pleased with the effort level our athletes have shown in the early season," said Schroeder.
Schroeder expects freshman Annie Fittin to take an early lead in the rankings this year. "Annie had a great competition," said Schroeder after the intrasquad meet last weekend. "She is working very hard in practice and it is paying off."
The Terrapin's regular season will begin on October 26, when Maryland hosts Johns Hopkins University. "We are looking forward to our competitive schedules, where the results will reinforce the hard work our squad has put in," said Schroeder. "We are hoping that we have a lot of pleasant surprises this season."
The Terps Black & Red Invitational will commence at 5:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon at the Eppley Recreational Center. The competition will continue into Saturday, with meets at both 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
