Maryland Falls to NC State

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland men's and women's swimming and diving teams fell to NC State earlier today. The Terrapin men scored 120 to the Wolfpack's 178 while the women's final score is 155-141.

The women began the day by placing second and third in the 200-yard medley relay. Jackie Davidson, Emily Smoak, Jen Vogel and Annie Fittin finished with a time of 1:46.94 and Kirsten Jones, Casey Albert, Blair Cross and Kathryn Snedeker finished with a time of 1:49.61.

The women had an impressive showing in the 200-yard butterfly. Nina Rossi, Vogel and DeScenza finished first, third and fourth with times of 2:03.23, 2:05.77 and 2:05.81, respectively.

Fittin won the 50-yard freestyle for the women while Nick Cordes took the event for the men. Cordes also finished first in the 100-yard freestyle, with a time of 46.45, and the 100-yard butterfly, with a time of 50.40.

Fittin and Davidson captured the top two spots in the 100-yard backstroke. Fittin swam a 57.69 while Davidson finished with a 58.30.

Chris Sanford and Dong Kim took the second and third spots in the 100-yard backstroke with times of 51.11 and 51.95, respectively.

Andy Dilz took the 100-yard breaststroke for the guys, swimming a 57.12 while Aleksandar Damjanic captured the 200-yard butterfly, finishing with a time of 1:52.04.

The women also won the 100-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle, while the Maryland men won the 200-yard medley relay.

In the diving competition, Montana Puente scored a 191.70 in the 1-meter diving for the women. On the men's side, Derek Hock scored a 255.82.

In the 3-meter competition, Puente scored a 180.37 while Hock scored a 291.82. Both finished third in the competition.
