COLLEGE PARK, Md. - University of Maryland senior Nick Jowers posted a two-hit game for the second straight outing, but Clemson broke open a 2-2 tie with four runs in the final two innings to earn a 6-2 victory over the Terrapins in an Atlantic Coast Conference baseball game played Sunday at Shipley Field.

Clemson took two wins in the three-game weekend series and improved its record to 18-8 and 6-6 in the ACC. The Tigers have won six of seven and nine of the last 11.

Maryland fell to 14-13 overall and 3-9 in the conference.

Jowers had a pair of singles as three Clemson pitchers scattered six hits and one walk. Tiger starter Ryan Hinson (2-3) earned the win by giving up six hits and two runs over seven innings while striking out eight.

Clemson got 13 hits against six Terrapin pitchers, including a pair of doubles and a single by Ben Paulsen. Mike Freeman, Jeff Schaus and Kyle Parker also had two hits each for the Tigers, who got three RBIs from Doug Hogan. The top three hitters in the Tiger lineup finished with 10 hits, including four doubles.

With the score tied at 2-2, Paulsen opened the Clemson eighth with a double down the left-field line off Maryland reliever Tim Kearney. Brad Taylor came on and walked Parker and Boyd moved the runners to second and third with a ground out.

Brett Tidball came on in relief and got pinch-hitter Stan Widmann to line out to right, but the game-tying run scored on the sacrifice fly.

The Tigers put the game away with three runs in the ninth, leading off the inning with five straight hits. A two-run single by Hogan was the key hit in the rally.

After Clemson went ahead 2-0 in the first, Maryland tied the game in the fourth. Gerry Spessard singled, Chad Durakis followed with a double and Will Greenberg brought home a run with a single to left. The second run scored on an error by the Tigers on a pickoff attempt.

Maryland continues its homestand with games on Tuesday at 6 p.m. against Navy and on Wednesday at 7 p.m. with George Mason. Maryland's next ACC series is next weekend at Virginia Tech.
