COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Fresh off its first ACC series victory of the season, the University of Maryland baseball team welcomes a pair of in-state foes to Shipley Field this week, beginning with Coppin State Tuesday night and Mount Saint Mary's Wednesday evening.
The Terrapins (18-14, 5-10 ACC) have won nine straight non-conference games this season, dating back to the first game against Coppin State on March 5, a game the Terps won, 12-2.
Maryland plays Coppin State (2-32, 0-9 MEAC) Tuesday at 7 p.m. Sophomore Tim Kearney (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock) is expected to start on the mound for the Terps while Coppin State plans on going with Nate Kellar (0-1, 7.94).
Offensively, the Terps are led by senior Nick Jowers (Beltsville, Md./DeMatha Catholic), who is batting .371 with an on-base percentage of .488, both of which rank among the best marks in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Maryland third baseman Mike Murphy (Silver Spring, Md./Georgetown Prep) leads the Terps with eight home runs, a career high. Maryland's 30 team home runs are only four shy of last season's total.
Coppin State is led by Harry Williams. Williams leads the Eagles in most offensive categories, including: batting average (.361), runs (21), hits (43), doubles (12), home runs (3) and RBIs (20).
The Terps are 35-1 all-time against the Eagles.
Mount Saint Mary's is 4-18 and 2-1 in the NEC.
The Mountaineers are led by Josh Vittek, who is batting .337 with four home runs and 18 RBIs.
Maryland leads the all-time series with the Mount, 10-1.
