COLLEGE PARK, Md. - University of Maryland track and field team members Toni Aluko, Katie Rogus and Christina Smith were named to the 2008 All-ACC Academic Women's Track and Field Team, the conference announced Friday.

Aluko culminated her Terrapins career with a sixth-place finish in the women's high jump at regionals, earning All-East Region honors. The Burtonsville, Md., native also finished fourth in the high jump at the ECAC Championships in 2008 after winning the same event at the 2007 ACC Outdoor Championships. It marks the second consecutive year Aluko, a kinesiology major, has been named to the All-ACC Academic squad.

Rogus, a senior from Brookville, Md., specializes in the heptathlon for the Terps, having finished ninth in that event at the 2008 ACC Outdoor Championships to duplicate her performance from the previous season. A criminal justice major, Rogus also placed fifth in the pentathlon at the 2008 ACC Indoor Championships after winning the 800-meter portion of that event.

Smith, who recently garnered ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 2 honors, concluded her Maryland career as one of the Terps' most celebrated student-athletes. She qualified for NCAA Nationals in the heptathlon and ranks second in school history in that event with 5,165 career points, including a fourth-place finish at the 2008 ECAC Championships. As a student, Smith, who hails from Sicklerville, N.J., earned a 3.57 grade-point average in marketing.

In all, 43 student-athletes were selected to the All-ACC Academic Women's Team, including 17 All-ACC performers and five NCAA All-Americans. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade-point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
