Under the Shell Episode No. 3 Preview
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The University of Maryland women's basketball team will begin a two-game Atlantic Coast Conference road swing beginning with Friday's contest at Virginia. The No. 8/9 Terrapins will face the No. 19/18 Cavaliers at John Paul Jones Arena at 7 p.m. in front of a regional television audience on Comcast SportsNet.
Maryland (16-3, 4-1 ACC) is coming off a 77-71 win over No. 2/3 North Carolina on Sunday in which two players, guard/forward Marissa Coleman and forward Demauria Liles, contributed double-doubles. Coleman's performance of 22 points and 10 rebounds, her league-high 32nd career double-double, earned her ACC Player of the Week accolades. Liles combined a career- and team season-high 15 rebounds with 12 points versus the Tar Heels.
Senior guard Kristi Toliver netted a game-high 23 points on 8-of-21 shooting against the Tar Heels. Freshman center Lynetta Kizer added 10 points and nine rebounds en route to being named ACC Rookie of the Week for the second straight time.
The win was Maryland's 29th straight victory at the Comcast Center and put the Terps back in the top-10 in both major polls for the first time since being ranked No. 8 in the AP Poll (Dec. 1) and No. 5 in the Preseason ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll.
The Terps, 18-5 on the road in ACC play the past four seasons, will look to win their seventh straight game over Virginia. The Cavaliers (16-4, 3-2) split their last four games and are coming off a 75-67 win at Clemson on Monday.
Virginia's Monica Wright leads the ACC in scoring (22.0 ppg) and ranks in the top-10 in the country in points and steals per game (3.4 spg). Lyndra Littles, who played in just her 11th game of the season at Clemson, netted a game-high 22 points against the Tigers and is scoring 20.5 ppg.
Cavalier senior Aisha Mohammed is tied for the ACC lead in rebounding with 9.3 boards per game.
