COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland men's swimming and diving team smashed another four school records to conclude the 2009 ACC Swimming and Diving Championships Saturday night at Eppley Recreation Center Natatorium.

A blend of youth and veterans provided the Terps with points on the last day of competition. Junior Brian Honore broke the grueling 1650 free record by over six seconds (15:22.92) and tallied four points for Maryland with the swim.

Freshman Andrew Relihan continued his fantastic ACC Championships debut with another school record and NCAA B-cut time in an 11th-place finish in the 200 backstroke (1:44.52).

Sophomore Mitch Challacombe continued Maryland's youth movement with a personal-best time in a prelim swim in the 100 free (44.26). Challacombe went on to finish 15th in the evening session.

Maryland's seniors took center stage in the 200 breaststroke as Eric Cullen broke his previously-set school record with a 12th-place finish (1:59.45). Fellow classmate Andy Dilz finished 16th after setting a career-best (2:00.18) in his prelim swim.

Freshman Sean Stewart tallied seven points for Maryland with a school record (1:46.72) in a 10th-place finish in the 200 fly to round out the Terps scoring for the meet.

In an unfortunate turn of events, Maryland slid to eighth place in the team standings after being disqualified in the final event (400 free relay) of the championships. Virginia swept the championships after also winning on the women's side a week ago.

"I am so proud of this team's willingness all-year long to be the best they can be," first-year head coach Sean Schimmel said. "I am proud and honored to be a part of all the records and NCAA B-qualifying times we put up during these championships."

In total, the men's squad broke 14 school records in the four-day meet.
