ATLANTA -
Mike Rozak hit his first collegiate home run, but the ninth-ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets pounded five homers of their own en route to a 24-3 victory against the Terrapins Saturday afternoon at Russ Chandler Stadium.
The Terps fell to 4-6 and 0-2 in the ACC with the loss, while Georgia Tech improved to 8-1 and 2-0, respectively.
Maryland threatened Tech starting pitcher Zach Von Tersch in the top of the first inning, loading the bases with no outs. However, Gerry Spessard struck out and freshman Taylor Buran grounded into an inning-ending double play as the Terps were left scoreless.
The Yellow Jackets proceeded to put up 15 runs combined in the first four innings to run away with the game. A Jensen Pupa sole home run in the second inning and Rozak's pinch-hit, two-run shot in the ninth accounted for all of Maryland's runs.
Von Tersch allowed only the Pupa homer in five innings to earn the win, improving to 3-0 on the season. Ian Schwalenberg took the loss for Maryland, falling to 0-2.
The Terps will look to salvage the final game of the series at 1 p.m. Sunday. Freshman left-handed pitcher Matt Fullerton will be on the mound for Maryland and will face Tech's Brandon Cumpton.
