Damjanic Crowned Croatian National Champion in 200 Fly

Maryland junior Aleksandar Damjanic was crowned Croatian National Champion in the 200 fly after swimming a 2:02.04 in the event at Prvenstvo Hrvatske 2009 this weekend.

Damjanic, who has been solid in the fly for the Terps in each of his first three seasons in College Park, also competed in the 50 and 100 fly. He placed sixth in the 100 fly (55.04) and 12th in the 50 (25.28).

A native of Zagreb, Croatia, Damjanic garnered ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District honors this season after tallying a 3.93 GPA as an international business major. He established new school records in the 100 fly (47.64) and 200 fly (1:45.88) while assisting in three record-setting relays, the 800 free (6:34.02), 200 medley (1:27.81) and 400 medley (3:14.82), that all marked new Maryland-bests at the 2009 ACC Championships in College Park.
