COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Former Los Angeles Dodgers manager and Hall of Famer Tommy Lasorda will headline the inaugural Maryland baseball leadoff banquet on Friday, Feb. 4, 2011 at the Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center.

The event offers a chance to meet and greet the players and coaches, as well as hear from one of baseball's greatest ambassadors.

Lasorda, one of the most identifiable names in baseball, had a brilliant 20-year managing career with the Dodgers. He led the team to eight division titles, four National League pennants and two World Series championships. In 1997 he was elected to baseball's highest honor, the National Baseball Hall of Fame. He has been enshrined in 15 different Halls of Fame.

The 2011 season will be the 62nd that Lasorda has been with the Dodgers organization, having played for the team and managed in the minor leagues prior to taking over the top club in 1977. Since retiring as manager, he has served as general manager, senior vice president and now as special advisor to the chairman.

Lasorda ranks 13th all-time with 1,599 career wins, and his 61 postseason games managed ranks fifth all-time behind Joe Torre, Bobby Cox, Tony LaRussa and Casey Stengel. He also managed the United States team that won the Gold Medal at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia.

Tickets for the event can be purchased for $65 by completing the form above and emailing, mailing or faxing it to Maryland baseball. In addition to the banquet tickets, a number of other options exist including youth tickets ($35), a family 4-pack ($180) and corporate tables and sponsorships. Complete information can be found on the above form.

Doors open at 7 p.m. for a cash bar, silent auction and autograph session with the 2011 Maryland baseball team. The program begins at 7:45 and includes a buffet dinner, followed by an introduction of the team, highlight film, a live auction and keynote speaker Tommy Lasorda.

Tickets to a VIP reception at 6 p.m. are also available and feature an autograph and photo session with Lasorda and the Maryland baseball coaching staff, as well as an open bar.

The Terrapins, under second year head coach Erik Bakich, open the season Feb. 18 with a four-game series at Texas. Maryland returns home for an eight-game homestand that opens with Navy on Feb. 23.
