COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
The University of Maryland baseball team has a pair of games against teams from the Colonial Athletic Association on tap this week. The Terps travel to Norfolk, Va., to take on Old Dominion at 7 p.m. Tuesday before returning home for a 6 p.m. matchup with Towson on Wednesday.
Maryland, which has compiled a 7-5 record thus far against CAA teams, has a total of 17 games on the schedule against teams from the CAA.
The Terps have a 2-0 record against the Monarchs and Tigers, having defeated Old Dominion 3-2 on March 17 and Towson 4-2 on March 6.
Maryland, with a 14-24 record this season, is being led by a number of young players.
Brandon Padula has hit safely in six of the last seven games, but saw his average drop below .400 for the first time all season after going a combined 3-for-12 against the Wolfpack. The redshirt sophomore is still among conference leaders with a .391 clip.
Catcher Jack Cleary has been a bright spot for the Terps all season and had a career day in Maryland's last outing. Cleary went a career-best 4-for-4 and raised his batting average above the .300 mark for the first time since March 16. A redshirt freshman, Cleary is now batting .316. He has continually improved defensively this season and has thrown out eight of the last 11 runners attempting to steal against him.
Sophomore Alfredo Rodriguez has started every game at shortstop for the Terps and has also been a consistent offensive threat. Rodriguez is third on the team with a .287 batting average and is second in the Atlantic Coast Conference with 20 stolen bases. He also ranks second in the conference with 10 sacrifice bunts.
Old Dominion is currently 16-24 overall and 4-8 in conference action. The Monarchs are batting .274 as a team and have a 6.18 staff ERA.
Towson enters a Tuesday matchup with Navy at 11-26 overall and 6-9 in the CAA. The Tigers have played the majority of their games away from home this season and have a 5-21 record on the road. Towson has a .297 team batting average but has been slowed by a 8.53 team ERA.
