TOWSON, Md. - Gary Schneider went 4-for-4 and Maryland cranked out 13 of its 15 hits in the first five innings on the way to a 10-5 victory over Towson Wednesday afternoon.

Maryland jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning and batted around in the fifth, scoring six runs to take a commanding lead.

Schneider, a freshman who had his first multiple-hit game last Friday against Miami, recorded two hits in the fifth inning alone against Towson. He led off the inning with a double, his third of the game, and capped it off with an RBI single that plated Maryland's sixth run of the inning.

Matthew Murakami and catcher Zach Fisher had RBI doubles in the rally, while David Poutier and Alfredo Rodriguez both had singles.

Blair Delean gave Maryland another solid mid-week effort on the mound, striking out six in six innings. The junior allowed four runs on six hits and improved his record to 3-2 on the season.

Matt Passauer came on in the eighth and allowed just one hit over the final two frames as Maryland earned a season-series victory over Towson. The Terps and Tigers had split two meetings earlier this season in College Park.

Fisher, who was making just his second start of the season at catcher, got Maryland started early with a double to left-center in the first inning. Schneider, who was coming off a 7-for-12 performance in three games last weekend, continued his hot-streak by ripping a double down the left field line for a 1-0 lead.

The Terps added another run in the inning when Kevin Tehansky reached on an error, allowing Schneider to come home from second base.

Maryland extended its lead to 4-0 in the fourth. Brandon Padula singled and reached third when Matthew Murakami dropped a single into right field. After Murakami stole second, Alfredo Rodriguez hit a hard grounder down the third-base line that Towson's Austin Harclerode was unable to handle, allowing Padula and Murakami to score.

Along with Schneider's four hits, Murakami had three and Fisher and Rodriguez each had two.

Towson scored two in the bottom of the fourth, but Maryland quickly responded with the big fifth inning.

The Tigers went on to add another two in the sixth and one more in the seventh, but never appeared to be in danger of catching the Terps.

Mike Bronakoski (2-4) took the loss for Towson (16-31), pitching four innings and giving up four runs on seven hits.

Maryland improved to 16-33 on the year and snapped a nine-game losing streak.

The Terps travel to Lynchburg, Va., on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. matchup with Liberty.
