BLACKSBURG, Va. - Dwight Barbiasz and Jon Hill finished first and second for Maryland in the men's high jump, highlighting Friday's performances at the Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Virginia Tech.

Barbiasz won the event by clearing 7 feet, 2.25 inches, while Hill cleared 7-0.25 to place second. Those two were the only competitors to clear 7 feet and earned Maryland 18 team points.

Kris Kornegay-Gober of NC State and Ronnie Black of Virginia Tech led the men's high jump through 6-10.75, as six jumpers cleared that height. Barbiasz made 7-0.50 on his first attempt and Hill cleared it on his third try, with everyone else missing all three attempts at that height.

Barbiasz made 7-2.25 on his second attempt, with Hill being eliminated at that height. Barbiasz missed all three attempts at 7-4.25, which is the automatic-qualifying standard for the NCAA Indoor Nationals.

Also on Friday, Greg Kelsey finished sixth in the men's 5,000 meters in a career-best 14:17.92. It moved Kelsey up one spot to second on Maryland's all-time list in that event. Dan McDevitt went 15:06.95 to place 23rd overall but move into 10th on the Terps' all-time list.

For the Maryland women, Kristen Batts added more than two feet to her career-best in the 20-pound weight throw to place fourth in the competition. Batts went 60-5.25 to become only the fourth Terrapin ever past 60 feet in the event and move into third on the all-time list. Jessie Echard placed 11th in the weight throw at 54-10.25 to claim 10th on Maryland's list.

Senior Kiani Profit, who Thursday won the pentathlon championship, posted a career-best 20-0.25 in the women's long jump to place sixth. She is the fourth Terrapin ever past 20 feet in that event.

Freshman Amina Smith also scored for the Terrapins in the women's high jump, finishing fourth with a jump of 5-7.

Maryland's women are fourth after seven of 17 events were completed, earning 25 points. Clemson led after the second day of the three-day competition with 54 points, ahead of North Carolina (36) and Virginia Tech (28.5).

The Terrapin men are sixth with 21 points after day two of the meet. Host Virginia Tech led with 53, with Florida State (33) and NC State (30.5) in the top three.

The ACC Indoor Championships will wrap up on Saturday.
