COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
The University of Maryland women's tennis team heads into the final weekend of the regular season ranked 30th in the country according to the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings which were released Tuesday.
Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar held strong in the singles, moving up one spot to No. 31, while the junior and her partner Jordaan Sanford boosted their doubles' ranking to 22nd in the nation. A win over then top-ranked Josipa Bek and Keri Wong of Clemson on April 3 helped propel the Terps' No. 1 doubles up 19 spots and into the top 25.
Sanchez-Quintanar got another quality win last weekend with her straight-sets win over FSU's 42nd-ranked Katie Rybakova.
Maryland will finish the season with double-digit victories for the first time since the 2005-06 season when the Terps last reached the NCAA tournament.
The Terps also saw the debut of freshman Cristina Stancu last weekend. The freshman from Constanta, Romania went 1-1 in singles, picking up a crucial victory in the Terps match against Florida State to tie the score at 2-all.
All 12 ACC teams are currently ranked in the top 75, and the Terps get no break before heading into the ACC Championship. Maryland heads down to Winston-Salem, N.C., Friday to take on No. 54 Wake Forest at 3 p.m. The Terps then wrap up regular season dual play when they visit 33rd-ranked N.C. State Saturday at noon.
The Championship action begins the following Thursday, April 21, in Cary, N.C. with seeding still to be decided.
