CLEMSON, S.C. - Clemson's Brad Miller went 3-for-4, including a two-run double in a four-run first inning, as the Tigers jumped out to an early lead and went on to a 7-0 victory over Maryland on Saturday night.

Sophomore right-hander Scott Firth (3-0) allowed just two hits - both to Maryland second baseman Ryan Holland - in six scoreless innings to earn the win. David Haselden was credited with his second save after pitching three innings of one-hit ball.

The Tigers got a pair of base-runners with a hit batsman and a walk in the first, then took a 1-0 lead on Richie Shaffer's single down the right-field line. With two runners on, Miller, who had three hits on Friday as well, doubled to left-center field for a 3-0 advantage. That prompted an early move to the bullpen for freshman Brady Kirkpatrick, who allowed a single to Will Lamb that gave Clemson (18-12, 6-8) its fourth run of the inning.

Kirkpatrick kept the Tiger advantage at 4-0 until the fifth, when Jeff Schaus doubled and moved up to score on two passed balls. Junior catcher Phil Pohl, one of four Tigers to have multi-hit games, homered to left-center field with a runner on in the sixth for a 7-0 lead.

Clemson had 13 hits in the game, while Maryland (14-17, 2-12) had three. Holland raised his batting average to .327 with a 2-for-4 performance, and Alfredo Rodriguez singled in the eighth inning. Sophomore left-hander Gary Schneider made his second appearance of the season on the mound for Maryland and tossed two scoreless innings, striking out two and allowing one hit. Eric Potter (2-4) took the loss after allowing four runs in 1/3 of an inning.

Maryland and Clemson conclude the three-game series Sunday at 1 p.m.
