    • Maryland (13-10) had a breakout 2011 campaign as the Terps posted their best record since 1989 (16-9) and reached as high as No 24 in the country. The Terrapins, No. 33 in the final regular-season rankings, advanced to the NCAA Championship for the first time since 2006, though they were eliminated in the first round by the Washington Huskies. Two of their key performers were junior Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar and freshman Jordaan Sanford and they will represent the team this week at the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships. Sanchez-Quintanar will play in both singles and doubles. Sanford will join her in doubles. Sanchez-Quintanar will face Nazari Urbina of Texas A&M at 4 p.m. PDT Wednesday in opening-round action. The winner will play either Zoe De Bruycker of North Carolina or Mallory Burdette of Stanford in Thursday's round of 32. Sanchez-Quintanar and Sanford will play Linda Abu Mushrefova and Nida Hamilton of Northwestern on Thursday (time is TBA) in the opening round of doubles.

Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar is having a stellar first season with the Terps. She is 30th in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) singles rankings, and sits at No. 26 in doubles with partner Jordaan Sanford. Sanchez-Quintanar has a 16-4 dual singles mark which includes five wins against ranked opponents. She earned 2011 All-Atlantic Coast Conference accolades, the first Terp honored since Marianne Baker in 2007. Ramona But was the last Terp invited to play in both the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships, making an appearance in 2006. Baker joined But and the duo reached the round of 16. Sanchez-Quintanar and Sanford are 18-4 on the season, including a victory over the nation's best doubles tandem at the time. They upended Clemson's Josipa Bek and Keri Wong 8-5 on April 3.

Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar and Jordaan Sanford were honored by the ITA earlier this month. Sanchez-Quintanar was named the 2011 Atlantic Region Player to Watch and Sanford was tabbed the rookie of the year.

    • The Terps had one of their best seasons in the past decade. Maryland finished a perfect 10-0 in non-conference play while knocking off three ranked opponents. The 13 wins mark the first time the Terps finished with double-digit victories since 2006 (12-12) and their first time over .500 since 1999 (12-9). The Terps also upset the No. 11 team in the country twice, downing Georgia Tech on April 1, and Virginia on March 20. The win over Virginia was the first over a top 15 foe since an upset of No. 12 Duke on April 10, 2005.

    • Second-year head coach Howard Joffe has helped lead the resurgence of the Maryland program. The Terrapins finished the season with six wins over ranked opponents after going four years without posting one win vs. a top-75 foe. The Terps' No. 24 ranking the week of March 22 was their highest since before ACC expansion.
