On Ciganek: One of the top returning competitors for the Terps ... improved on times from 2000 in three meets during the 2001 season … one of three representatives for the Terps at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic regional meet.

Before Maryland: Graduated from Kent County High School in 2000 … named as the Kent County High School male athlete of the Year following his senior season … a member of the cross country team as a senior … also a member of the indoor and outdoor track teams during all four of his prep years … a seven-time Maryland state champion .. earned state championships in the 1,600 meter indoor run (1999 and 2000), the 1,600 meter outdoor run (1999 and 2000) the 3,200 meter outdoor run (1999), the 800 meter indoor run (2000) and the 800 meter outdoor run (2000) … established 1A state records in the 1,600 indoor (4:33.00), the 1,600 outdoor (4:24.00) and the 800 outdoor (1:56.60).
