As a Junior (2003-04): Was part of the school record-setting 200-yard freestyle relay, which finished fourth at the ACC Championship with a time of 1:20.77 ... established new career bests at ACC's in the 50- and 100-free and the 100-fly, finishing 12th in the 50-free (20.76), 18th in the 100-free (45.96) and 17th in the 100-fly (50.36) ... also was part of the second-place 400-free relay, the fifth-place 200-medley relay and the sixth-place 400-medley relay at the conference meet ... took third in the 100-free (47.80) and second in the 400-free and 400-medley relays at N.C. State (47.52) ... placed third in the 50 free (21.38) and 100 free (47.13) against Clemson and Virginia Tech ... won the 50 free (21.29) and came in second in the 100 fly (52.15) at Villanova ... finished fourth in the 100 free at the Terrapin Cup Invitational (46.12) ... placed fifth in the 50 free against Pittsburgh (21.32) ... won the 50 free (21.44) and came in third in the 100 fly (53.22) at Duke ... finished sixth in the 50 free against North Carolina and Georgia Tech (21.26) ... came in fifth in the 50 free (21.27) and sixth in the 100 free (47.10) at Virginia.
As a Freshman (2001-02): Swam exceptionally well at the ACC Championships, placing 19th in the 100-yard free (46.53), and was a part of the sixth place 400-yard free relay (3:03.48) and the seventh place 200-yard free relay (1:23.17)...also time trialed the 50-yard free in a career best time (20.93)...finished third at NC State in the 50-yard free (22.03) and the 100-yard free (48.14)...placed fifth in the 50-yard free (22.04) against Florida State...was fourth in the 50-yard free (22.10 and second in the 100-yard free (47.98) against Duke...had a great meet against Georgia Tech, turning in a pair of second-place finishes in the 50-yard free (21.64) and the 100-yard free (47.05)...also was part of the winning 400-yard free relay (3:07.28)...placed fourth in the 100-yard free (47.11) and was a member of the winning 200-yard and 400-yard free relays in the Terrapin Cup Invitational...finished fourth in the 200-yard free (1:45.69) and third in teh 50-yard free (21.5) against North Carolina...came in third in the 50-yard free (21.24) and in the 100-yard free (46.95) against Virginia.
Before Maryland: Four-year letterwinner in swimming at Upper Dublin High School ... also lettered in track and cross country ... holds four school records ... earned various honors during his prep career including All-America, all-league, all-district and all-state accolades.
Personal: Michael Fried is the son of Penny and Larry Fried ... a business major ... was recruited by Princeton, Penn State, Indiana, Rutgers and Virginia.
