Terps Gymnastics Announces 2015 Schedule

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Maryland Gymnastics team released its 2015 schedule, head coach Brett Nelligan announced Friday. The Terps inaugural Big Ten season is headlined by meets against West Virginia and Big Ten foes, Michigan, Minnesota and Penn State.

“This is a historic season for the program,” Nelligan said. “The Big Ten has a proud tradition of excellence in the sport of gymnastics and we're looking forward to seeing some new places and taking on new opponents.”

Highlighted by two meets against boarder rival and former EAGL conference opponent, West Virginia, the inaugural Big Ten meet against Minnesota as well as against the defending Big Ten champion, Michigan, the Terps will look to capitalize and step-up to the challenge as they showcase their talents throughout the season.

The GymTerps open their slate with the annual Red vs. Black intrasquad meet at the XFINITY Center (Dec. 12). Following the intrasquad meet, the Terps begin their regular season at home with a tri-meet against West Virginia and George Washington (Jan. 9). Maryland continues its home stand and opens its conference slate when Minnesota comes to College Park in the Terps inaugural Big Ten meet (Jan.15).

The team then heads out on a two-meet road swing, starting in State College against 2014 NCAA semifinalist Penn State (Jan. 24), before heading to Iowa City to face Iowa (Jan. 30).

The Terps return home to welcome defending Big Ten champion and NCAA semifinalist, Michigan, to College Park (Feb. 7). The team then travels north for a quad-meet against Rutgers, Cornell and Ursinus (Feb. 14), before returning home (Feb. 20), to face Towson, George Washington and William and Mary for the middle of three consecutive quad meets.

Maryland finishes February with a two-meet road swing starting with the second of two meets against West Virginia with New Hampshire and Rutgers (Feb. 22), in Morgantown, W. Va. They then travel to Texas for the first time since the 2008 season to face Texas Woman's University with Utah State and Brown (March 1).

The GymTerps finish up their home schedule against Bridgeport, Southern Connecticut and William and Mary for the fourth quad meet of the season (March 8). Finally, the Terps will look to close out their regular season strong at the B1G 5 meet in Lincoln, Neb. (March 14).

The postseason begins with the Big Ten Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich. (March 21). The NCAA Regionals begin on April 5 at predetermined regional locations with the NCAA Championships taking place on April 18 in Fort Worth, Texas.

The Terps finished the 2014 season with an 11-7 record. The team currently has 21 home meet winning streak and has not lost a meet in College Park since February 18, 2012.

The gymnastics team competes all home meets on the main floor at the XFINITY Center on the campus of the University of Maryland. Admission to all home meets is free.
