Maryland Defeated on Leadoff Home Run

MIAMI, Fla. – Victoria Brown hit a leadoff home run and pitched a complete game to lead Jacksonville past the Maryland softball team, 1-0, Sunday at the Felsberg Memorial Tournament in Miami, Fla.

Junior Kaitlyn Schmeiser struck out seven batters and allowed only two hits in over four innings of work, but the Terrapins could muster just two hits of their own in the game.

Brown's leadoff home run in the bottom of the first inning proved to be the difference, as both teams combined for just five hits in the entire game.

The Terrapins threatened with a last-ditch effort in the top of the seventh as Corey Schwartz singled down the line with two outs. Schwartz then advanced to second, but Juli Strange popped out to end the game.
