GymTerps Post A 195.375 In Quad Meet Victory

PISCATAWAY, N.J.—The Maryland gymnastics team posted a season-high team total of 195.375 in a quad meet victory over Rutgers, Cornell and Ursinus, Saturday afternoon. The Terps (4-5, 2-3 B1G) also won the individual titles on vault, bars and beam. Rutgers tallied a 194.400, followed by Cornell with a 192.225 and Ursinus with a 189.650. For the second time this season, the team did not count a fall on any apparatus.

“This meet will do a lot for us moving forward,” head coach Brett Nelligan said. “We came into a really tough environment and had some spectacular routines. We are continuing to gain momentum as the season progresses.”

Katy Dodds took the vault crown with a season-high score of 9.875, while Karen Tang took the bars title with a score of 9.850. Stephanie Giameo rounded out Maryland's individual titles with a 9.850 on beam.

The Terps started the afternoon on bars, tallying a team total of 48.850. Karen Tang (9.850) placed first individually with Abbie Epperson (9.825) placing second. Sarah Faller, Katy Dodds and Kathy Tang all added a score of 9.725.

On the second rotation, beam, Maryland racked up a team total of 48.575. Stephanie Giameo (9.850) took the individual title, while Sarah Faller (9.725) and Shannon Skochko (9.700) both added scores above a 9.700.

Maryland moved to the floor scored a team total of 49.000, the highest since facing Minnesota (1/15). Karen Tang (9.850) placed second individually, while Leah Slobodin (9.800) and Ebony Walters (9.800) tied for third. The GymTerps did not count a score lower than 9.775 on the apparatus.

The team finished the meet on vault, recording a score of 48.950. Katy Dodds (9.875) took the individual crown, while Kathy Tang (9.850) tied for second. Dominiquea Trotter (9.775), Leah Slobodin (9.750) and Shannon Skochko (9.700) all added scores above a 9.700.

The GymTerps return home on Friday (Feb. 20) to face George Washington, Towson and William & Mary for their annual Breast Cancer Awareness Pink Meet. The team will be sponsoring a silent auction featuring Maryland apparel with all proceeds going to benefit breast cancer research.
