WACO, TEXAS – The No. 63 Maryland's women's tennis team dropped its contest with No. 6 Baylor, 4-0, at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center.
The doubles session started out with a strong showing from twin Terp duo Nataliya Bredikhina and Olga Bredikhina winning in the No. 3 spot over Leolia JeanJean and Theresa Van Zyl, 6-4. Welma Luus and Alexandra Stanova fell to Ema Burgic and Kelley Anderson, 6-4. The doubles point was clinched with a 6-3 win from Kiah Generette and Tachael James-Baker over Kristina Hovsepyan and Ekaterina Tour.
“We had players that did everything they could to put us in a position to win the match; unfortunately, that wasn't enough to win. There was a lot of good things that came out of today, as well as a lot of things that we need to work on,” said head coach Daria Panova.
The Bears came running out of the gate in singles, with a 6-3, 6-1, win from Rachael James Baker, and a 6-0, 6-2, win from Kiah Generette, giving Baylor the advantage. The Bears clinched victory in the No. 1 spot when Ema Burgic defeated Alexandra Stanova, 6-3, 6-2.
