BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Senior Welma Luus won at No. 3 singles, but the Maryland women's tennis team fell 6-1 at the IU Varsity Tennis Courts Saturday afternoon.
The Terrapins (9-12, 2-8 Big Ten) fell in a tightly contested doubles point before dropping five of six singles matches.
In the doubles session, Indiana took the match at No. 3 before Luus Ekaterina Tour captured the match at the top spot. Nataliya Bredikhina and Kristina Hovsepyan played a close match at No. 2, but ultimately fell in a 10-point breaker, 10-7.
In singles, Indiana won contests at No. 6, No. 5 and No. 1 to close out the match. That didn't stop Luus, who defeated Shannon Murdy, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7). Nataliya Bredikhina also played a tight match, but was defeated 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-8).
Maryland returns to action tomorrow in its regular season finale against Purdue. Play is scheduled to begin at noon.
