Shawaryn Earns First Team All-American Honors

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – University of Maryland right-handed pitcher Mike Shawaryn earned first team All-American honors from Collegiate Baseball Magazine, the publication announced Thursday.

Shawaryn currently holds a record of 12-2 with a 1.65 ERA and 124 strikeouts. His 12 wins are a single season school record.

The Carneys Point, N.J., native's strikeout total leads the Big Ten, is fifth in the nation and is currently would represent the second highest single season mark in school history. Shawaryn's win total is second in the country and his 23 career victories are the most for any sophomore in the nation.

A Dick Howser Award and Golden Spikes Award semifinalist, Shawaryn will play for the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team this summer, becoming just the second Terp to ever don the Stars and Stripes.

Shawaryn captured Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honors four times over the course of the season en route to earning unanimous All-Big Ten first team honors. He was also named NCWBA Pitcher of the Week after his 13-strikeout performance against Cal State Fullerton.
