Laine, LaFond to Represent Terps at Pan Ams

TORONTO – Maryland assistant coach Samyr Laine and former student-athlete Thea LaFond will compete in the 2015 Pan American Games this week in Toronto.

Laine will compete in the triple jump for Haiti while LaFond will represent Dominica in the high jump. The women's high jump competition begins Wednesday at 10 a.m., with the men's triple jump following on Friday at 11:30 a.m.

Laine is a one-time Olympian and has competed at the Pan Ams twice. A multi-time All-American, LaFond was the 2015 Big Ten Track Athlete of the Year.

The Pan-American Games track and field competition will take place at the CIBC Pan Am Stadium. Coverage can be seen on ESPN3.com and the WatchESPN App.

In addition, current Maryland athletes Alexandra Lucki and Micha Powell will compete in international competition this summer. Lucki is a representative for Canada at the Junior Pan Am Games in the 1500m while Powell will also don Canadian colors at the North American, Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) Senior Championships in San Jose, Costa Rica.
