Pro Terps Report: Cecil Stars for Toronto

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland baseball currently has a number of alums playing Major League organizations. Each week we will take a look at how they are progressing in their pro seasons.

Major League Baseball

Brett Cecil, LHP, Toronto Blue Jays

Stats: 2-4, 4.05 ERA, 33.1 IP, 39 K, 12 BB, 5 SV

Highlights: Cecil has not given up a run in over a month, spanning 12 appearances. He has struck out 39 batters to help the Blue Jays stay afloat in a tight American League wildcard race.


Justin Maxwell, OF, San Francisco Giants

Stats: .215/.270/.368, 24 R, 25 RBIs, 7 HR.

Highlights: Maxwell torched the Phillies on July 10 with four hits, three runs and two RBIs. He finished a home run away from the cycle.  Maxwell's Giants sit just a half game back of the Dodgers in the race to the National League West title.


Double-A

Jimmy Reed, LHP, Springfield Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals)

Stats: 6-6, 2.96 ERA, 3 CG, 106.1 IP, 67 SO, 17 BB.

Highlights: Reed has notched three consecutive starts with over five innings pitched. His ERA is 3.30 for Springfield.


Adam Kolarek, LHP, Binghamton Mets (New York Mets) 

Stats: 1-1, 4.59 ERA, 49.0 IP, 43 SO, 18 BB, 1 SV.

Highlights: Kolarek tossed a scoreless inning on July 29 to drop his ERA to a eason-low 4.59.


Single-A

Jake Stinnett, RHP, South Bend Cubs (Full-Season, Chicago Cubs)

Stats: 4-4, 4.92 ERA, 78.2 IP, 56 SO, 43 BB

Highlights: Stinnett is currently on the 7-day disabled list. He threw six and 2/3 innings and gave up three runs while striking out five in his last outing on July 22.


Blake Schmit, SS, Cedar Rapids Kernals (Milwaukee Brewers)

Stats: .226/.355/.339, 8 R, 12 RBIs, 2 2B, 1 HR.

Highlights: Schmit, currently recovering from an injury, notched a multi-hit game on June 8 with two hits and two RBIs.  


Kevin Mooney, RHP, Auburn Doubledays (Short-Season, Washington Nationals)

Stats: 0-0, 3.52 ERA, 7.2 IP, 2 K.

Highlights: Mooney appeared on July 26 and went one and 2/3 innings against Lowell.


Rookie League

Kevin Martir, Catcher, Greeneville Astros (Houston Astros)

Stats: .238/.392/.270, 6 R, 11 RBIs, 2 2B, 15 BB.

Highlights: Martir reached base three times in Greeneville's 12-4 win over BRitol on July 28. His average rose to a season-high .246 on July 28.


LaMonte Wade, Outfielder, Elizabethton Twins (Minnesota Twins) 

Stats: .308/.393/.504, 14 R, 22 RBIs, 5 2B, 3 3B, 4 HR, 14 BB.

Highlights: Wade is Elizabethton's hottest hitter, belting a two-run homer in the Twins' win over Johnson City on July 29. Wade's average has hovered around .300 for most of July and he leads Elizabethton in all major offensive categories.


Jose Cuas, 3B, Helena Brewers (Milwaukee Brewers)

Stats: .239/.328/.368, 18 R, 17 RBIs, 9 2B, 2 HR, 4 SB

Highlights: Cuas has recorded multi-hit effort in two of his last three games to raise his average to .239, its highest mark since July 20.


Alex Robinson, LHP, Elizabethton Twins (Minnesota Twins)

Stats: 0-2, 7.71 ERA, 7.0 IP, 10 K.

Highlights: Robinson went two innings and gave up a run in his last outing against Burlington on July 20.


Zach Morris, LHP, Golf Coast League Phillies (Philadelphia Phillies)

Stats: 2-0, 3.52 ERA, 7.2 IP, 8 K.

Highlights: Morris moved his record to 2-0 with a two-inning relief appearance against the GCL Yankees on July 20. Morris struck out two and gave up just one hit.


Jake Drossner, LHP, Helena Brewers (Milwaukee Brewers)

Stats: 1-1, 4.29 ERA, 21.0 IP, 18 K

Highlights: Drossner earned his first career win as a professional on July 28, throwing five innings and giving up four runs against Missoula. Fellow Terps Jose Cuas supported Drossner with two doubles and an RBI.
