Maryland to Face Toughest Test at ITA Regionals

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland women's tennis team will be taking the court at Old Dominion University for the ITA Regional Championships.

The event serves as a qualifier for the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships in Flushing, N.Y. at the Billie Jean King Tennis Center.

The Terps will be playing against a wide-range of opponents from the Atlantic region, including Big Ten rival Penn State, as well as local foes Georgetown and George Washington.

Certain players from each team will participate in a round of qualifying on Friday, while others have automatically been placed in the main draw which begins on Saturday. The tournament features a main draw and a back draw, which guarantees each player at least two matches over the course of the weekend.

All singles matches will be best two-of-three and doubles matches will be eight-game pro sets.

Maryland is coming off its best performance of the fall season after a strong weekend at the Cissie Leary Invitational two weeks ago. Caroline Williams and Ekaterina Tour paired up to win the doubles championship. Tour also advanced to the quarterfinals of the singles bracket, while freshman Katsiaryna Yemelyanenka finished in second place.

Admission for the five days of the ITA Regional Championships is free. For more information, visit the ITA website or click here
