ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Senior Kathy Tang tallied 9.825s on vault and floor as the Maryland gymnastics team scored a 194.075 at the Michigan tri-meet Monday. The third-ranked Wolverines won the meet with a 197.425 while No. 28 Eastern Michigan scored a 195.875.
Tang's score on floor was a new season high for the Agawam, Mass., native. Junior Leah Slobodin also set a new season high in the event with a 9.750.
The Terps began the evening on uneven bars, where three gymnasts posted 9.800s or higher. Faller started Maryland off with a 9.850, while McClelland and Epperson each scored 9.800s. Tang anchored the event with a 9.700 as the team scored a 48.175.
Maryland moved to balance beam, where sophomore Evelyn Nee led the team with a 9.800. In her season debut, sophomore Dominiquea Trotter scored a 9.775 while junior Sarah Faller scored a 9.750.
The Terps posted consistent scores on floor, where no gymnast tallied less than a 9.725. Sophomore Abbie Epperson scored a 9.750 while junior Emily Brauckmuller, freshman Megan McClelland and freshman Macey Roberts earned 9.725s.
Maryland finished the event on their strongest event, vault, tallying a 48.800 team score. Trotter scored a 9.800 while Faller posted a 9.775.
Tang also competed in the all-around and notched a 38.875.
The Terps host Rutgers in Maryland's second annual Beauty & the Beast event next Sunday, Feb. 14. The Terrapins will compete simultaneously with the wrestling team at 2 p.m. in the XFINITY Center. For more info on the event, click here.
