Terps Travel to B1G Five Meet

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland gymnastics team travels to Columbus, Ohio, for the B1G Five Meet Saturday at 4 p.m.

• The Terrapins will compete against Ohio State, No. 23 Illinois, Michigan State and No. 16 Nebraska.

• Saturday's meet will be streamed live on BTN Plus and will reair on the Big Ten Network on Sunday at 3 p.m. Live results will be available here and on the team's Twitter (@terpsgymnastics).

LAST TIME OUT

• Senior Kathy Tang won the vault title as the Maryland gymnastics team placed second with a 194.700 at the Maryland Five Meet last Sunday afternoon.

• Tang earned a 9.850 on vault and floor, placing fourth on floor. Sophomore Abbie Epperson scored a 9.825 on uneven bars, placing second on the apparatus.

• The Terps finished the meet with their strongest event on floor, tallying a 49.050. Three Terps scored over a 9.800, including Tang, junior Emily Brauckmuller (9.825) and freshman Macey Roberts (9.825). No Maryland gymnast earned under a 9.750 on the event.

• The Big Ten hosts two B1G Five qualifiers to determine sessions in next week's Big Ten Championship.

•  The top three teams in each meet will compete in the night session of the championships while the other four teams will compete in the early session.

• Penn State will host Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota and Rutgers in the other B1G Five Meet on Saturday.

• The Buckeyes posted a 195.975 and placed second at the West Virginia Tri Meet last weekend. Kaitlyn Hofland earned a career-high 39.275 in the all-around.

•Ohio State has a season high 196.350 team score.

• Maryland is 1-13 all-time vs. the Buckeyes. Last season, Ohio State placed third (195.250) at the B1G Five Meet while the Terps placed fifth (194.875).

scouting the nebraska cornhuskers

• The 16th-ranked Huskers are coming off a 197.350 against Utah State.

• Senior Hollie Blanske leads Nebraska as a three-time All-American. She has won 10 event titles this season. Blanske tied her career high iwth a 39.600 in the all-around last weekend.

• The Huskers are 7-0 vs. the Terps.

• No. 23 Illinois earned a 195.425 and won the State of Illinois Classic last weekend. The Illini won every event title except bars.

• The Illini have scored above 195.000 in every meet this season, including a season high of 196.525.

• The Terps are 1-3 all-time vs. Illinois.

scouting the michigan state spartans

• The Spartans placed third with a 194.875 in a quad meet at Cal last Friday before falling to Boise State with a 194.575.

• Lisa Burt leads the Spartans in the all-around and tied her season high with a 39.250 last weekend.

• Maryland is 0-6 all-time vs. Michigan State.

tang shines for terps

• Senior Kathy Tang has stepped up as an important leader for the Terps this season.

• An impact performer on any event, Tang holds career highs of 9.900 on vault and 9.875 on bars, beam and floor.

• Tang is averaging a 9.805 on vault this season and a 9.768 on bars. She is also averaging a 9.783 on floor.

Epperson, Tang tabbed by big ten

• Senior Kathy Tang and sophomore Abbie Epperson were named Maryland's Gymnasts to Watch by the Big Ten Conference last month.

• A well-rounded gymnast, Tang competed on all four apparatuses in 2015. Tang placed 19th on vault at the 2015 Big Ten Championships and tied for 16th on floor at the NCAA Regionals.

• A freshman standout last season, Epperson competed on vault and bars in every meet in 2015. Epperson tied for fifth on vault at the Big Ten Championships and 12th on bars at the NCAA Regionals and was named Big Ten Specialist of the Week on Feb. 2, 2015.

• Defending conference champion Michigan was named the favorite in the Big Ten Preseason Coaches' Poll.

terps announce 2016 schedule

• After posting the team's highest NCAA finish in 14 years last season, the Maryland gymnastics team once again faces a challenging schedule in 2016.

• Six of Maryland's opponents finished the 2015 season ranked by GymInfo, including No. 6 Michigan, No. 9 Nebraska, No. 13 Penn State, No. 14 Illinois, No. 17 Minnesota, No. 19 Arkansas, T-No. 23 Iowa and No. 25 New Hampshire.

maryland posts highest ncaa finish since 2001

• The Terps finished the 2015 season on a high note as Maryland finished third at the NCAA Auburn Regional, the program's highest finish since 2001 with a 195.150.

•Maryland posted a 48.950 team score on vault and hit 23 of 24 routines. The Terps did not count a fall at the regional.
