The Terps defeated the No.62 Purdue Boilermakers at home on Sunday by a score of 6-1. Maryland improves to 5-7 overall and 2-1 in the Big Ten.
Maryland started the day out on a low, losing the doubles point to the Boilermakers. Claudia Escribens and Debora Suarez shut out Nataliya Bredikhina and Caroline Williams at the No.3 spot, 6-0. Terps Ekaterina Tour and Arnelle Sullivan battled against Purdue duo Andjela Djokovic and Marta Ruedas-Burgos, falling by a score of 7-6(5).
In Singles play, the Terps found their rhythm and notched a victory in all six positions. Sullivan added another win to her streak, coming out on top over Djokovic, 6-1.4-6,7-5. Cassandre Thebault put on a show in the No.5 spot, defeating Escribens, 6-3,6-2.
Coach Daria Panova said," I was very proud of the girls today. We talked a lot about everyone showing up on the same day and getting their job done. And they really did that. We lost a really tough doubles point and then came back fighting in singles!"
The Terps will continue conference play when they travel to the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation center to face Iowa on Sunday, March 20. Play is scheduled to begin at 11 A.M.
