Terps to Honor Seniors at Maryland Five Meet

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland gymnastics team hosts Senior Day during the Maryland Five Meet in the Terps' home finale this Sunday at 2 p.m. in the XFINITY Center.

• The Terrapins will host Pittsburgh, Texas Woman's, Yale and No. George Washington.

• Sunday's meet will be streamed live on BTN Plus. Live results will be available here and on the team's Twitter (@terpsgymnastics).

• Admission to the event is free.

LAST TIME OUT

• The Terps earned their highest score of the season as Maryland placed second at the George Washington Quad Meet last weekend with a team score of 196.025. The team also posted a season-high 49.175 on floor.

• Senior Kathy Tang tied for second on vault with a 9.850 while sophomore Dominiquea Trotter earned fourth with a 9.825 and junior Sarah Faller tied for fifth with a 9.800. Sophomore Abbie Epperson tied for third on bars with a 9.875. Epperson and sophomore Evelyn Nee tied for fourth on beam with 9.850s.

• The team counted no falls and counted no score under a 9.650. Maryland earned 14 scores of 9.800 or higher on the afternoon.

• Fans are encouraged to stick around after the meet as the Terps honor their three seniors.

• A native of Damascus, Md., Bailey Philbin has been a great team player for the Terps. She has competed in seven meets at Maryland and holds a career best 9.700 on bars.

• An impact gymnast on every event, Kathy Tang has been a key contributor since her freshman season. A native of Agawam, Mass., Tang has stepped up as a leader this season and holds career highs of 9.900 on vault and 9.875 on bars, beam and floor.

• A native of Sparrows Point, Md., Alex Zimmermann stepped up as an important part of the lineup in her first seasons with the Terps. She holds a career best 9.825 on floor and 9.725 on vault.

• The Panthers are coming off a third place finish at the Ohio State Tri Meet, where Pitt posted a 193.450.

• Pittsburgh owns a season high of 195.250, which the team earned at the Towson Tri Meet on Feb. 12.

• Senior Lindsay Offutt either holds or is tied for the team's season highs on every event: vault (9.875), bars (9.925), beam (9.925), floor (9.900) and all-around (39.575).

• Maryland opened the 2016 season at the Pittsburgh Quad Meet, where the Terps earned a 194.400-191.050 win over the Panthers.

• The Pioneers are coming off a win over Centenary, where the team posted a season-high 192.625.

• Sophomore Schyler Jones has led the Pioneers this season on vault (9.850 high), beam (9.850), floor (9.775) and all-around (38.925).

• The Terps competed against Texas Woman's last season, taking a 195.525-194.275 win.

• The Bulldogs placed third at the Ivy Classic last weekend with a 191.650. The team earned its highest bars score since 2001 with a 48.675.

• Three Bulldogs earned career highs on bars at the Ivy Classic, including Tatiana Winkelman (9.825), Allison Bushman (9.800) and Megan Ryan (9.750).

• The teams last competed on Feb. 15, 2013, when the Terps took a 194.675-188.525 win.

• Ranked No. 21 nationally, George Washington won the GW Quad Meet with a 196.600 last weekend, where the Terps placed second with a 196.025.

• The Colonials will have a quick turnaround as they host NC State for a dual meet Friday.

• Sophomore Liz Pfeiler earned a career best 9.925 on beam last weeekend. Sophomore Jilliam Winstanley ranks second in the conference on vault (9.855 RQS) and bars (9.860 RQS) and leads the EAGL in the all-around (39.275 RQS).

Epperson, Tang tabbed by big ten

• Senior Kathy Tang and sophomore Abbie Epperson were named Maryland's Gymnasts to Watch by the Big Ten Conference last month.

• A well-rounded gymnast, Tang competed on all four apparatuses in 2015. Tang placed 19th on vault at the 2015 Big Ten Championships and tied for 16th on floor at the NCAA Regionals.

• A freshman standout last season, Epperson competed on vault and bars in every meet in 2015. Epperson tied for fifth on vault at the Big Ten Championships and 12th on bars at the NCAA Regionals and was named Big Ten Specialist of the Week on Feb. 2, 2015.

• Defending conference champion Michigan was named the favorite in the Big Ten Preseason Coaches' Poll.

terps announce 2016 schedule

• After posting the team's highest NCAA finish in 14 years last season, the Maryland gymnastics team once again faces a challenging schedule in 2016.

• Six of Maryland's opponents finished the 2015 season ranked by GymInfo, including No. 6 Michigan, No. 9 Nebraska, No. 13 Penn State, No. 14 Illinois, No. 17 Minnesota, No. 19 Arkansas, T-No. 23 Iowa and No. 25 New Hampshire.

maryland posts highest ncaa finish since 2001

• The Terps finished the 2015 season on a high note as Maryland finished third at the NCAA Auburn Regional, the program's highest finish since 2001 with a 195.150.

•Maryland posted a 48.950 team score on vault and hit 23 of 24 routines. The Terps did not count a fall at the regional.
