IOWA CITY, Iowa – Redshirt senior Geoffrey Alexander (133) wrapped up action at the 2016 Big Ten Championships for the Maryland wrestling team Sunday afternoon, dropping to Ohio State's Johnni DiJulius in the seventh place match. Regardless of his loss today, Alexander clinched one of the Big Ten's nine automatic qualifier spots with his eighth place overall finish.
It wasn't Alexander's day in session three, as DiJulius jumped out to an 8-2 lead after the first period. A takedown and four-point near fall was his undoing in the third period, as DiJulius secured the No. 7 spot on the podium at Carver Hawkeye Arena.
Alexander will now set his sights on the 2016 NCAA Championships, which begin March 17-19 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Stay tuned to umterps.com for the release of the tournament seeds.
