The Maryland women's tennis team claimed a 5-2 victory over the Nittany Lions of Penn State on Saturday morning in College Park. The Terps improve their 2016 campaign to 7-8 and are now 4-2 in Big Ten conference play.
The Terps started the morning off with a dominating performance in doubles play winning in all three positions. No. 79 duo Kristina Hovsepyan and Alexandra Stanova defeated Jacqueline Zuhse and Katherine Whiteaway, 6-1.
In the No.2 and No.3 positions the Terps continued to win with Ekaterina Tour and Arnelle Sullivan winning over PSU's Katia Blik and Samantha Tutelman, 6-3. Kim Surin and Dasha Sapogova fell to Nataliya Bredikhina and Caroline Williams, 6-4, to secure the point for Maryland.
Singles play saw Cassandre Thebault claim her fifth conference with a win over Whiteaway, 6-0, 2-6, 6-4. In the No.6 position, Tour extended her winning streak to four with an impressive performance over Liyin Xu, 6-1, 6-0.
Coach Daria Panova said, "I am very proud of the team. We came in with great energy and fight starting in doubles and continuing throughout the entire match."
Marlyand will continue home action tomorrow as they face-off against No.2 Ohio State Univeristy. Action is schedule to begin at 11 A.M.
