COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland gymnastics team celebrated its season and seniors at the Terps' annual team banquet last Sunday. Student-athletes, coaches and support staff gathered to commemorate the team's 2016 season.
“The team banquet was a great way to celebrate the season and recognize our gymnasts for their hard work,” head coach Brett Nelligan said. “It's always great to come together and look back on the season and reflect on the successes we had.”
Senior Kathy Tang was named the team's most valuable player for the second straight year. Tang was Maryland's leader on multiple events and was named All-Big Ten Second Team in 2016.
Senior Bailey Philbin was awarded the Timex Award while junior Emily Brauckmuller earned the Perseverance Award. Sophomore Evelyn Nee took home the Dynamite Beam Award.
Freshman Macey Roberts earned the team's Iron Terp Award and shared Rookie of the Year honors with Megan McClelland.
The Terps' Leadership Award was given to Tang, junior Sarah Faller and junior Leah Slobodin. The three stepped up as leaders this season as Maryland featured a young lineup.
The Terps sent six gymnasts to NCAA Regionals this season. Epperson tied for seventh on uneven bars with a 9.850 in a field made up of some of the best gymnasts in the country. Tang completed on vault and floor, finishing in the top-15 on vault with a 9.800. Roberts notched a 9.825 on floor. Brauckmuller, sophomore Dominiquea Trotter and Nee were selected as alternates.
