COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Freshman Alecia Farina tied for the team lead on three events and set two personal bests as the Maryland gymnastics team fell, 195.975-193.800, at No. 22 Iowa on Sunday afternoon.

"Overall there were some really bright spots to today's meet and some really great performances," head coach Brett Nelligan said. "We put ourselves in some tough situations on each event, but I was pleased with their toughness in getting out of those situations on bars and floor."

Farina set new career highs on vault (9.775) and floor (9.825) against the Hawkeyes. She tied for third on floor with senior Emily Brauckmuller while junior Dominiquea Trotter finished tied for third place on beam with a 9.750.

Maryland tied its season high team scores on uneven bars (48.775) and floor (48.825).

The Terps began the meet on bars, where senior Sarah Faller started the team off with a 9.750. Sophomore Shynelle Agaran matched the score in the fourth spot and junior Evelyn Nee and Farina finished the rotation with a pair of 9.825s.

Maryland moved to vault, where the team notched a 48.600. Freshmen Kirsten Peterman and Deanna Magro started the Terps off with 9.675s. Freshman Morgan Bixler made her collegiate debut, scoring a 9.700. Farina and Faller finished the event with a pair of 9.775s.

The Terps competed on floor next. Sophomore Megan McClelland started Maryland off with a 9.700. Farina posted a 9.825 in the third spot and senior Leah Slobodin followed with a 9.775. After sophomore Amanda Bertorello tallied a 9.700, senior Emily Brauckmuller anchored with a 9.825.

Maryland finished the meet on beam, where the team struggled to perform consistently. Trotter notched her 9.750 in the third spot. Faller anchored with a 9.625.

Maryland returns to action in the XFINITY Center this Sunday against No. 10 Michigan. The Terps and Wolverines will face off at noon on BTN Plus, and the meet will be reaired at 4 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.
