EVANSTON, Ill. -- Junior heavyweight Youssif Hemida picked up a pin, and Maryland (3-2, 0-2 B1G) earned two additional victories in the Terps' 34-12 loss to Northwestern (3-0, 1-0 B1G).
Hemida's win improved his overall record to 8-0 on the season, and it was his fourth win over a ranked opponent. Maryland also received wins from freshman Kyle Cochran (157) and redshirt sophomore Brendan Burnham (165).
Northwestern controlled the match out of the gate, and the Wildcats were victorious in the afternoon's first four matches. Maryland was able to cut into the deficit, with Cochran and Burnham earning consecutive wins. Cochran's win was his fourth-straight dual meet win, and Burnham has now won three bouts in a row after closing out the Road Runner Open with a pair of victories.
Hemida was able to close out the afternoon with a third period pin for the Terrapins, his fourth of the season.
"Give a lot of credit to Northwestern for the way they battled today," head coach Kerry McCoy said. "They came out of the gate with a lot of energy and showed how deep and talented our conference is. We saw some good things from guys today, and we're looking forward to another conference battle against Wisconsin."
Maryland will be back on the mat when it continues Big Ten competition with a bout against No. 20 Wisconsin on Thursday, Dec. 7. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in Madison.
