Terps Set All-Time Marks on Day One of Florida Relays

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Several Terps moved up the all-time top-10 lists while setting new career-best marks as the Maryland track and field team competed on day two of the 2017 Florida Relays Friday.

Claudia Ababio smashed her career-best in the discus, throwing 53.47 meters to finish first in the event. The mark moved her into second all-time in the event in school history, and was over four meters further than her previous career-best (49.63). 

Lisa Meneau set a new lifetime best in the 400 meter hurdles, placing fourth in the field with a mark of 57.65. The time moves her into second all-time in the Maryland record books in the event, topping Thema Napier's time of 57.73 set back in 2002.

Dallyssa Huggins ran herself into the all-time Maryland list in the 400 hurdles, finishing in 1:00.79 to move into seventh all-time. Thaila Cooper also ran a strong race to take the No. 9 all-time spot with a mark of 1:01.27. Huggins would also clear 1.68 meters in the high jump.  

Alexandra Lucki took sixth in a loaded field in the women's 1500, finishing in a career-best 4:18.87. The time will likely move Lucki into the top-15 nationally.    

In the men's 400m results Alex Leto led the way for the Terps with a time of 48.05. Kameron Jones was on his heels, finishing in 48.54, while Dahri Jahn-Richardson crossed the line in 48.85

Catherine Voelpel went 2:12.94 in the 800 meter run. Paul Joseph was 33rd in the 400 hurdles with a time of 54.83.

Kayla Richardson placed eighth in the women's long jump with a leap of 5.81 meters. On the men's side, Gaston Assoua cleared 7.08 meters in the long jump.

Louis Corgliano ran a solid race in the men's 3000 steeple, finishing ninth overall and sixth among collegiate runners with a time of 9:10.55.

 

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Maryland's distance contingent was also in action this week in the Mid-Atlantic region of the country, as a handful of runners competed at the Colonial Relays at the College of William & Mary.

Junior Patrick Hanley had a solid outing in the men's 10000 meter race, finishing second in a field of nearly 50 competitors with a time of 30:19.43. Freshman Kathryn Gearhart represented the Terps in the women's 3000 with a top-10 finish, taking ninth with a mark of 10:03.60.

Sydney Almeida was 16th in a field of nearly 100 runners in the 5000, crossing the line in a career-best 17:15.18. 

In the 800, Alexa Squirini led the way with a mark of 2:13.79 to take 31st. Rachelle Alexander (2:15.34), Vickie Ajimoko (2:18.31), Paige Novak (2:19.29) and Emily Bracher (2:19.53) rounded out the field for the Terps.

In the steeplechase, Aaron Barlev notched a top-15 finish with a mark of 9:27.11. Charde Barnes went 11:35.19 in the women's steeple to take 35th.
