Terps Host Wildcats in Final B1G Series

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Maryland baseball team faces off with Northwestern this weekend at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium. It is the Terrapins' final Big Ten series of the season. 

Coverage of all three games can be heard on the Maryland Baseball Network, with Terps Pregame Live starting 30 minutes before each game. Fans are encouraged to park in the pay lots in Regants Drive Garage, as parking around campus will permit only until 4 p.m.

LEADING IT OFF

•  The Terps opened their week with a 6-2 win over UMBC at home on Tuesday. Sophomore Nick Dunn had two hits, including a home run, while sophomore AJ Lee slapped a two-run single to highlight Maryland's four-run sixth inning.

•  Sophomore outfielder Marty Costes leads with Big Ten in hits with 65 and is among the league leaders in a number of offensive categories. He is third in on-base percentage (.437), fifth in slugging (.564), eighth in average (.346) and eighth in homers (8).

• Senior Brandon Gum has the fifth-best on-base percentage in the conference at .433. He has batted over .300 for the majority of the season and currently sits with a .306 mark. 

• Junior Zach Jancarski has been spectacular from the lead-off spot in 2017, and is getting on-base at a .434 clip, the fourth-best mark in the Big Ten. Jancarski leads Maryland with 18 steals on the season and has the fourth-most hits in the Big Ten with 63 on the season.

• Sophomore AJ Lee has been on a tear at the plate and is now batting .313, the third best mark on the team. Lee has hit a career-high six home runs this season and has 26 RBIs.

• After stealing just 28 bases in 57 games last season, Maryland has 88 in 47 games this season. Maryland has also raised its team on-base percentage to .379 this year. 

• Junior Brian Shaffer has been one of the top hurlers in the country this year and holds a Big Ten best ERA of 1.78. Shaffer has struck out 83 batters in 81.0 IP this year and is holding opponents to a .206 batting average against.
