Blohm Earns Freshman All-American Honors

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – University of Maryland freshman left-handed pitcher Tyler Blohm was named a second team Baseball America Freshman All-American, the publication announced Monday morning.

Blohm finished the season with eight wins, tied for third all-time in a single season in Maryland history and tops among freshman in the Big Ten. The Severna Park, Md., native ended the season with a 3.48 ERA with 71 strikeouts to 35 walks in 75 innings.

The lefty held opponents to a .227 average. He was honored as the Big Ten Freshman of the Year and was a two-time Big Ten Freshman of the Week selection. Blohm set a career high with 10 strikeouts against top-seeded Nebraska in the Big Ten Tournament.

He was previously named a Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Freshman All-American.

Blohm's selection marks the fourth straight year in which Maryland has had a freshman All-American. Marty Costes and Nick Dunn (2016), Kevin Smith (2015) and Mike Shawaryn and Brandon Lowe (2014) give the program six freshman All-Americans in the last four years.

Maryland finished its season at 38-23 after an appearance in the NCAA Regionals. Maryland has advanced to the NCAA Tournament three out of the last four seasons.
