BOSTON – The Maryland gymnastics teams' underclassmen posted impressive performances as the Terps opened the 2018 at the Little Boston Invitational on Friday evening. Temple won the meet with a 194.875, followed by New Hampshire (194.175), Maryland (194.100) and Towson (193.800).

Eighteen of Maryland's 25 counted scores came from underclassmen. Freshman Audrey Barber tied for first on uneven bars with a 9.875 and finished tied for second on balance beam with a 9.850. Fellow newcomer Karrie Thomas earned the floor title with a 9.850.

Barber also came in second in the all-around, earning a 39.050. Sophomores Alecia Farina and Kirsten Peterman also competed in the all-around, posting a 38.975 and 38.850, respectively. 

The Terps began the meet on vault, where the team earned a 48.775. Sophomore Morgan Bixler and Barber led the way in the middle of the rotation with a pair of 9.800s.

Peterman earned a 9.800 on bars and Barber notched a 9.875 to lead the team in the event. Farina anchored the event with a 9.775.

Beam was the strongest event for the Terps on Friday as the team earned a 48.925 and didn't count a score under 9.700. Peterman led off with a 9.750 and Thomas followed with a 9.800. Barber posted a 9.800 and junior Shynelle Agaran anchored with a 9.825.

Maryland notched a 48.550 score on floor, led by Thomas' 9.850. Farina had a 9.775 in the event, and sophomore Emma Johnson tallied a 9.725.

The Terps are back in action next Saturday, Jan. 13 at Minnesota for a quad meet with Winona State and Northern Illinois. The meet will take place at 4 p.m. and will be live streamed on BTN Plus.
