Terps Place Second at GWU Quad Meet

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Sophomore Kirsten Peterman tied for the bar title with a career-high of 9.900 and freshman Audrey Barber tied a personal-best with a tied-for-first-place score of 9.900 on floor as the Maryland gymnastics team tied their highest road score this season with a 195.825 at the George Washington Quad meet Sunday afternoon.

The No. 18 Colonials won the meet with a 196.825 while Towson finished third (195.250) and Rutgers scored a 193.550.

In the all-around, Peterman broke her career-high score with a 39.175. The Cambridge, Ontario, native placed third followed by Barber with a 39.025.

Terps kicked off the meet on floor, where junior Megan McClelland paced the team with a 9.725. Peterman followed with a 9.775, and Senior Evelyn Nee made her debut on the apparatus with a 9.775 of her own. The teams scores kept climbing as freshman Sabriyya Rouse notched a 9.825 and fellow freshman Karrie Thomas answered with a 9.850. To end the rotation, freshman Audrey Barber tied her career-high with a 9.900.

Maryland was next up on vault. Peterman started the Terps off with a solid 9.775 on the apparatus, and sophomores Deanna Magro and Emma Johnson followed with a pair of 9.750s. Sophomore Morgan Bixler earned a 9.175, and Barber and freshman Collea Burgess notched a pair of 9.725s.

Entering the third rotation with a running score of 97.850, freshman Emilie LeBlanc led the Terps on bars with a score of 9.850. Junior Shynelle Agaran followed with a 9.800 and Thomas earned a 9.825 with a stuck dismount. Peterman broke her career-high on the event with a 9.900 and Barber anchored the team with a 9.85.

The Terps entered their final rotation on the beam, where Peterman paced the team with a 9.725. LeBlanc's routine earned her a 9.800 and Thomas followed with a 9.875. With a stuck dismount, Agaran anchored the Terps with a solid 9.800, giving the team an overall score of 48.750 on the event.

The Maryland gymnastics team returns to action next Friday at 7 p.m. when they take on Temple and Penn in the Temple Tri meet in Philadelphia.
