Terps to Conclude Regular Season vs. Indiana, Purdue

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Maryland women's tennis team (9-11, 3-6 B1G) will wrap up its 2018 regular season this weekend, hosting Big Ten foes Indiana and Purdue at the Junior Tennis Champions Center in College Park. 

Maryland will host Indiana at 2 p.m. on Friday, which will be followed by its season finale against Purdue at noon on Sunday. If played indoors, both matches will be streamed on the JTCC website. Live stats will also be provided. 

LAST TIME OUT

Maryland concluded the road portion of its 2018 schedule with a pair of matches at No. 24 Michigan and Michigan State last weekend. The Terps fell to Michigan, 4-0, and were bested by the Spartans, 4-2. 

Millie Stretton had another strong weekend for the Terrapins, picking up a pair of wins in Maryland's match at Michigan State. The junior now has a team-high 12 singles wins on the season to go along with 13 doubles wins. 

SCOUTING THE HOOSIERS

Indiana enters the weekend with a 16-9 record on the season, including a 3-6 mark in conference play. The Hoosiers' season got off to a fast start, winning their first eight matches of the season. 

Their last outing came in a 5-2 win over Penn State, and the Hoosiers have now won two of their last three matches. Indiana's 16 wins is its most since the 2014-15 campaign.

Indiana will be led by Caitlin Bernard, who has a team-high 17 wins between the top three spots of IU's singles lineup. She also has a team-best four conference victories this season.

SCOUTING THE BOILERMAKERS

Purdue (12-9, 5-4 B1G) will come to College Park after a match at Rutgers on Friday. The Boilermakers have won six of their last nine matches, and had won in four-consecutive outings before falling to Ohio State in their latest contest. 

Their season includes a pair of wins over ranked opponents, topping both No. 38 Arkansas and No. 36 Nebraska earlier this season. 

Silvia Ambrosio is Purdue's lone ranked player, coming in at No. 95 in the ITA Rankings this week. 

DOUBLES DOMINANCE

Maryland has featured strong doubles play this season, earning the doubles point in 13 of the team's 20 matches this season. Maryland's doubles success has been led by Eva Alexandrova and Millie Stretton, who have earned 13 doubles victories this season. The Terps' top tandem also has not lost a doubles match in conference play this entire season and is 1-0 against ranked opponents. 

Arnelle Sullivan and Saya Usui have also impressed and have put together a 6-3 record this season, headlined by a 6-0 win in Maryland's match against Marshall. 

NO STOPPING STRETTON

Junior Millie Stretton has thrived in her first season in College Park, joining the Terps after two seasons at Kansas State. 

The junior owns a 12-4 singles record in the third singles position to go along with a 13-2 doubles line while playing with partner Eva Alexandrova in the top spot of Maryland's lineup.

FRESHMAN FEATURE

Freshmen Eva Alexandrova and Zoe Kulkarni have been successful in bookending Maryland's singles lineup this season.

Playing at the top two spots of Maryland's singles lineup, Alexandrova has 10 wins on the season, including three-straight wins to close out non-conference play. Alexandrova also has found success in doubles, posting a 13-2 record in doubles play at the top spot of Maryland's lineup.

Kulkarni has anchored Maryland's singles lineup, claiming 10 wins on the season. She also has four Big Ten victories on the year. 

HOME COOKIN' 

Maryland has found success on its home court this season, posting a 7-2 record in home matches this season.

The Terps have won 16 of their last 20 home matches dating back to last season.

INTERNATIONAL FLAVOR

Maryland's 2018 roster features student-athletes from six countries outside of the United States.

The Terps currently have representatives from Belarus, Israel, Japan, Russia, Ukraine and the United Kingdom.

UP NEXT

Maryland will head to Minneapolis, Minnesota, for the 2018 Big Ten Championships, hosted by the Unviersity of Minnesota. The Terrapins will begin play on Thursday, Apr. 26, with the championship match airing live on the Big Ten Network on Sunday, Apr. 29.
