Alexandrova, Stretton Debut in ITA Rankings

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Sophomore Eva Alexandrova and senior Millie Stretton debuted as the 22nd-ranked doubles tandem in the country, the ITA announced Tuesday.

The two are the highest-ranked Big Ten pairing in the ITA's first installment of its ranking service for the upcoming season. The ranking comes after the two finished the 2017-18 campaign ranked 52nd in the country.

It is Maryland's highest preseason ranking in program history and the highest overall ranking since Ana Belzunce and Welma Luus were ranked 15th in March of 2015.

Alexandrova also cracked the singles ranking, entering her sophomore season as the 112th-ranked singles player in the country.

Alexandrova and Stretton dominated during the 2017-18 season. The two posted an impressive 16-2 record while playing in the top spot of Maryland's doubles lineup, including an upset win over the fourth-ranked doubles pair of Lipp/Larner during the Big Ten Championships.

An All-Big Ten selection during her freshman season, Alexandrova also tallied 11 singles victories while playing in the top two spots of Maryland's lineup. Stretton also had a strong singles season for the Terrapins, leading the team with 16 victories while playing in the third spot of Maryland's lineup.

Maryland's 2018-19 season will begin this weekend with the Bedford Cup in College Park. Play is scheduled to begin on Friday. To see the full ITA Preseason Rankings, please click here
