  • It was a classic midweek affair as the Terps and Bulldogs went 90 minutes without many quality chances between them. It was not for lack of effort, as both teams were up for the challenge in a physical match.
  • Yale who came into the match undefeated and on their longest win streak since 1935 controlled the first 45 minutes. The Bulldogs looked to have scored in the opening moments, but the attempt missed going over the line by inches after a review by the referee.
  • The Terps switched formations to a 3-5-2 to start the second half and began to find the game. Senior Eli Crognale had a golden chance in the opening minutes of the half, but his acrobatic volley went wide. With 17 minutes left, junior Eric Matzelevich's effort from the top of the box just missed going in the right corner.
  • Maryland finished off its best chance of the game to win it. Crognale sent in a beautifully weighted ball from a corner that Bergmann nodded in. It was the German's second goal in as many games after not scoring previously in his Maryland career.
  • The Terps have now gone unbeaten in six of their last seven matches dating back to Sept. 23. They have wins over four ranked teams in that span.
  • Bergmann's overtime winner was Maryland's second this season. Fellow centerback Brett St. Martin won Maryland's match with St. John's on Sept. 23 with an overtime winner.

From The Boss
"I thanked our guys after the game for their terrific effort against a tough Yale team when I thought we didn't have a lot of gas in the tank. The tactical switch in the second half going to the 3-5-2 really helped us. This was not a thing of beauty tonight, but sometimes on these midweek games, you just have to grind it out. Our guys found a way to win. That's the sign of a team with great culture and great chemistry." – Sasho Cirovski
