COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The University of Maryland wrestling team will open the 2019-20 season on Saturday (Nov. 2) at the Cavalier Duals, facing Southern Virginia (10 a.m.) and #24 Virginia (2 p.m.) at the Memorial Gym in Charlottesville, Va.

SCOUTING SOUTHERN VIRGINIA
Southern Virginia returns three wrestlers with more than 50 career wins, including Keaton Gomez with 67 career wins at 174 pounds. The Knights finished eighth at the NCAA DIII Southeast Regionals. Heavyweight Nico Ramirez is ranked No. 10 in the preseason in the coaches rankings for their division, while fellow heavyweight Alex Brunner is coming off breaking the program's single-season wins record (30) in the school's history in DIII.
SCOUTING VIRGINIA
The 24
th-ranked Virginia Cavaliers return four NCAA qualifiers from last season in two-time All-American Jack Mueller (125), Sam Krivus (141), Cam Coy (165) and Jay Aiello (197). Mueller also won the ACC Championship, while Aiello finished as runner-up. Virginia returns nine regular starters from last season, only losing one NCAA qualifier to graduation. Mueller is ranked second at 125 whole Aiello is ranked ninth at 197 in the latest InterMat poll.
