COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Senior Brittany Lang was named a Big Ten Cross Country Sportsmanship Award Honoree by the Big Ten Conference Tuesday afternoon.
Lang is one of 14 athletes recognized throughout the conference for outstanding sportsmanship and ethical behavior, with one honoree from each school. Each honoree is in good academic standing and has demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
This past weekend, Lang placed 38th in a field of 123 runners at the 2019 B1G Cross Country Championships, marking her personal best finish in a conference meet. She was recently named the Solomon Eye Associates Terp of the Week by the University of Maryland Athletic Department.
Before Lang transferred to Maryland in 2017, she helped lead the University of North Florida's cross country team to a third place finish at the 2016 Atlantic Sun Cross Country Championships with a 15th place finish. She also was named to the 2016 ASUN All-Freshman Team.
Throughout her career with Maryland, Lang has made major improvements on cross country courses and the track.
The Maryland native has been a consistent top finisher for the Terps throughout the 2019 season. She was the first Terp to cross the finish line in the last three meets, and set a personal best in the 6K (20:52.3) Oct. 5, at Lehigh. This performance marked one of the Maryland's fastest times on a 6K course in the last three years.
Lang and the Maryland cross country team will compete in the 2019 Mid-Atlantic NCAA Championships on Nov. 15 at Lehigh University's Goodman Campus Cross Country Course, the same course where Lang set her personal best. The women's race begins at 11 a.m.
