Costes Earns Preseason All-American Honors

TUSCON, Ariz. -- Maryland sophomore infielder Maxwell Costes was selected as a preseason third-team Diamond Sports All-American, Collegiate Baseball newspaper announced Tuesday.

In his freshman campaign, Costes became the first freshman in Maryland history to receive first-team All-Big Ten honors. The Baltimore native led Big Ten freshman in home runs (15), doubles (15), slugging (.547), RBIs (49) and total bases (117). He hit 11 homers in Big Ten play.

Costes was also named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year following the 2019 campaign in which he was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week three times. Costes led the team in OPS (.944), slugging (.547), home runs (15), and was second on the team in RBI (49) and total bases (117).

Maryland opens its 2020 campaign with a three-game stretch in Charleston, S.C. where the Terps will play Charleston Southern, Iona, and College of Charleston Feb. 14-16.
